Chiyo no Sakae Matcha by Hekisuien 30g or 150g

Chiyo no Sakae is Hekisuien's entry-level usucha, and it's a lot of matcha for the price. We find it full-bodied, with a mild creaminess and some delicious nutty notes coming in at the finish. It's fairly bold with a slight coffee-like bitterness, which makes it very nice for lattes. The matcha still comes through the milk. It's not particularly marine (that brothy, seaweed-like character some matcha has) and has a lighter umami quality than many other matchas.

Chiyo no Sakae, meaning "prosperity for a thousand generations," is a blend of stone-ground, rested, shade grown tencha.

Hekisuien has been making tea since 1867 and has been recognized as Kyō no Shinise (a long-established Kyoto business).
